Computer Science
year 7 Course content:
In term 1 we cover the basic use of the iPad and the computer, our aim to ensure every student is a confident user of IT in our school and they are ready to use IT across the curriculum with ease. We then move on to study Computer Science, this is a very large subject with lots of applications. Computer scientists design new software, solve computing problems and develop different ways to use technology. ICT is studied for one hour per week, students study the following: 1. Use of the iPad and Computer including, office 365, emails, Teams, Garageband, iMovie, Calendar. 2. Iconic People 3. Binary and Denary 4. Representing images and sound 5. Hardware and software 6. Networks 7. Google Earth 8. Spreadsheets 9. Comic Strip project 10. Online Safety
Key assessments:
There will be a quiz style assessment after all topics via Teams assignments.
Year 8 Course Content:
Computer Science enables students to develop computer science knowledge from Year 7, whilst learning to program in Python and Visual Basic. Computer science is studied once a week and students study the following: • Number bases (binary, denary, hexadecimal) • Flowcharts • Coding in Python • Coding in Visual Basic • How technologies have developed over the years • Cyber security
Key Assessments:
Each topic will be assessed via Teams quizzes, all classwork is stored in One Note via Teams.
