year 7 Course content:
The Art course provides students with opportunities to gain experience across a broad range of materials and processes. Students explore Creative Art forms from different time periods and cultures to inspire their own Art work. They learn to analyse others’ work to infer meaning and to gain a deeper understanding of the creative processes. In their Art lessons, students study the following: 1. Still life - students will look at traditional art works and will learn how to create form through the use of tone and mark making. 2. Food and drink - students will consider how social issues can impact art. They will look at the pop art movement, with an emphasis on Wayne Thiebaud. Students will learn about colour theory and will apply this in their own paintings. 3. Abstract landscapes-Students will learn how to manipulate their own photographic images and use these to inspire their own abstracted landscapes inspired by the Fauvists. 4. Fruit and vegetable inspired sculpture. Students will learn how to translate 2D Art forms into 3D sculptural outcomes.They will take inspiration from contemporary sculptors and ceramicists 5. Aboriginal Art-Students will learn about traditional and contemporary Aboriginal Art and will be able to form comparisons between the two, as well as investigating how contemporary artists explore their cultural heritage through their Artwork.

Year 8 Course Content:
In their Art lessons, students will have opportunities develop and refine their drawing skills whilst investigating the work of a range of artists and art forms, both traditional and contemporary. Students learn how to use accurate proportions to draw a self-portrait; they learn about the anatomy of the face to help them understand how to apply tone to give the portrait form and make it look realistic. Students will explore the work of a range of portrait artist and will develop their understanding of different styles of media. They will develop their critical thing skills through analysing the work of other artists. Student will consider how they can create meaning in their own art work. Students study the following: 1. Portraiture: Students learn about proportions to produce a tonal self-portrait. 2. Portraiture: Students look at the portraits of a range of artists from different time periods and cultures. They explore how Art can be used to educate and inform about topical issues and consider how they can incorporate meaning in their own art work. 3. Photography. Students will explore a range of physical and digital editing techniques to create Art portraits. 4. African Masks. Students will explore the meanings and learn about the designs of African masks. They will develop their skills in working in 3D to produce their own mask inspired by those they have studied. Memento Mori. Students will develop their understanding of symbolism in Art work, they will consider how different objects can convey meaning in order to produce their own Memento Mori still life.
