CG House System

Our Chatham Grammar House System is built to incorporate leadership and ambition values that provide students with opportunities to engage in new and challenging experiences.

The Houses have been named to align with our stated purpose of being “Driven by Ambition”. Each House has its own core value and Leadership skill. Students participate in House competitions and there is a healthy drive to achieve as many leadership points as possible.

Fortnightly activities include Ready to Learn, Reflections, Drop Everything and Read, Words of the Week, Assemblies, Online Safety and Personal Tutor activities. Every term there is also an Ambition check in, to celebrate how students are striving to make ambitious choices in their day-to-day lives at Chatham Grammar.

ERUDITE – Having great knowledge.

CORE VALUE

Wisdom: The ability to apply knowledge and experience to make sound decisions. We use our moral and academic knowledge to understand the wider world.

LEADERSHIP SKILL

Critical thinking: Actively and skilfully evaluating information to form sound judgements. We use our wisdom to think synoptically about our learning and challenge the knowledge we use.

AFFINITY – Love for learning.

CORE VALUE

Creativity: The ability to discover new and original ideas. We explore new ways of learning and strive for new and exciting ways to look at the world.

LEADERSHIP SKILL

Adaptability: Being open to change and holding a growth mindset to respond to new circumstances. We use our creativity as an opportunity to try new activities in a meaningful and positive way.

VALOUR – Great courage in the face of adversity.

CORE VALUE

Resilience: Successfully adapting to difficult or challenging experiences with a growth mindset.

LEADERSHIP SKILL

Creative thinking: Looking at situations from different perspectives. We are not afraid to take on new challenges and see failure as a way to move forward, instead of the end of the journey.

PIONEER – Leading the way.

CORE VALUE

Independence: Taking ownership and control of our learning to set goals, be self-motivated and curious about our futures.

LEADERSHIP SKILL

Articulation: Having the ability to express oneself clearly in speech and writing to communicate ideas with clarity. We are able to lead others using our communication skills from teamwork.

ENDEAVOUR – Achieving a goal.

CORE VALUE

Integrity: The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, acting consistently with one’s values and beliefs, even when faced with challenges or temptations.

LEADERSHIP SKILL

Solution focused: Seeing the possibilities rather than the limitation and apply prior knowledge and experiences to new situations. We think about the wider community’s values to achieve group and personal goals.

Leadership Points

At Chatham Grammar, we value and recognise all positive elements of our students’ contributions to our learning community. This includes when they display our core Leadership Skills in any of your lessons. Whether it’s being articulate in English, using critical thinking in science, being adaptable in PE, showing creative thinking in art or being solution focused in maths, we appreciate and support students developing these 5 essential skills throughout their learning journey at our Academy.

The system we use is called ePraise and allows teachers of all subjects to easily award Leadership Points to students live in lessons, and gives them access to remotely check and visually track the Leadership Points that they have received. This can be done via the ePraise app on student’s iPads or by visiting the login page from any web-enabled device.

As above, points are awarded when students display Leadership Skills, and they will be rewarded through a virtual prize store on the app and can cash-in their Leadership Points for a variety of prizes and rewards including treats at school, small gifts and online shopping vouchers.
